In March, Siri Broch Johansen (Juho-Sire) became the first Sámi playwright to win the prestigious Ibsen Prize for "Per Hansen, a Faithful Man"—Norway’s only award for playwrights, and it was also nominated for the Hedda Award.
Looking ahead, Sire’s Sámi-language opera "Ovllá" will premiere on January 16, 2026, in Oulu—European Capital of Culture 2026. It’s the first Sámi opera ever staged in Finland, exploring themes of truth and cultural heritage loss.
Additionally, her play "Sálva/Håndtak" (The Grip) will tour Norway’s three northernmost counties from February to March.
